Media Distillery is a Dutch video analysis company that provides services to TV broadcasters and media companies. I am part of the backend team that is responsible for the development of the core products, which are machine learning augmented video analysis engines that can detect and recognize video context, recognize ads, detect real start and end times of programs, generate titles and descriptions to segments of video streams, automatically create trailers and many more.
The platform is used by our clients to provide additional metadata to their video content, which can be used for content recommendation, ad placement, and other purposes.
In 2023, the company I was working for unfortunately closed down. However, I was fortunate enough to quickly find a new role within the video streaming industry, which allowed me to continue pursuing my passion for this field.
The transition not only reinforced my dedication to the industry but also provided me with fresh opportunities to apply my skills and grow professionally. What made this opportunity particularly attractive was the company’s work with cutting-edge machine learning technologies, a rapidly growing and highly sought-after field.
This innovative focus on ML not only aligned with my passion for video streaming but also played a significant role in my decision to join, as it presented exciting new challenges and growth opportunities.
In addition to the machine learning aspect, another key factor in my decision to join was the opportunity to work with technologies like Kubernetes, clusters, monitoring tools, and cloud. While my background was primarily in test automation and C++ development, this new role allowed me to broaden my expertise into the DevOps space, an area I had not worked in extensively before.
